Full rewiring of a property happens in two stages:
First fix – this is when cables and wiring are installed, walls will be chased and new back boxes fitted.
Second fix – this is when connections are made, when sockets, switches, lights and other accessories are installed and final testing is carried out.
Runs of wires go everywhere: under floors, through walls and across ceilings, so careful planning of the locations of accessories prior to starting the work is vital. Our electricians will offer advice and check your plans to ensure minimal disruption to wall surfaces and the best end result.
One way to prepare before consulting an electrician is by drawing a simple sketch plan of your home, mark up the position of rooms, furniture and appliances. You can then consider the power and lighting requirements and positions of accessories and mark these on your plan.
In addition to rewiring for all power and lighting circuits, this is a good opportunity to install other cabling whilst there is access to floor and ceilings. Other rewiring to consider would be your central heating controls, alarms, smoke alarms and communications and aerial sockets.
